Roatan is a big island with a big population, almost 100,000 people live in the island according to the last census. Roatan is famous for its great snorkeling and scuba diving. Roatan is located right in the mesoamerican reef, and its considered top 5 destinations in Central America for snorkeling and scuba diving. The diving is considered a reef dive, the colors of the reef are stunning and the clarity of the water is impressive. The best months to visit Roatan are between January and July. There is also a very strong rainy season and a yearly hurricane season, which is between september and october. Roatan has an International Airport, and a capital city called Coxen Hole. The most visited places are in the west side of the island. West Bay and West End are located in the very western tip of Roatan. West End is the place for backpackers and young crowds and West Bay is considered a more luxurious area with all-inclusive hotels and longbeds all over the beach.
